La Villette restaurant, opposite lovely St Catherine Church, is as Belgian as it can possibly be. The charming old stucco-fronted building is overhung with awnings, while inside the quaint checkered table cloths, rust wood-panelled walls, country chairs, old framed advertising, and chalkboard menu ... La Villette was an extremely busy little restaurant just of the beaten track but close enough to the centre of town to still be convenient. When we arrived, our table had been double-booked but we didn't have to wait long and were given a beer on the house. Starters of mussels and salmon tartare were both good and the rabbit main course was excellent and very generous. Selection of excellent Belgian beers was very wide. Tables slightly too close together but it made for a good atmosphere
La Villette is a great restaurant for a really Belgian experience. Gorgeous food and friendly service, my only quibble being the slightly inflated prices when comparing it to a lot of the restaurants in the surrounding area, and Brussels in general. But in fairness it still equates to the price of a normal meal in London!
Three out of the four of us really enjoyed La Villette. The table wasn't ready when we arrived, but they gave us a complimentary aperatif while waiting. Three of us ate from the specials menu: the venison was tender and the pheasant which my friends ordered was plentiful and well-cooked. The problem was that one of our party is vegetarian. We had warned the restaurant in advance, but my friend was only offered a side plate of veg, for which she was charged nearly 8 euros. This spoilt the meal
Nice atmosphere, no hi-chairs available but they were able to accomodate our car seat. Great beers. Excellent service. Food was above average.
As soon as we walked into La Villette we were made to feel welcome, service was excellent and very friendly. Food was very good with beer cruisine and a good belgian beer list and excellent home made puddings. Will definitely go back.
