L’Atelier Berger restaurant in Paris’ Les Halles quarter opposite the gardens is an elegant yet casual city centre restaurant with, intriguingly, a French-Norwegian chef at the helm. Jean Christiansen, formerly with Rostang and Cagna, has created his own original fusion cuisine using brilliant ingredients in dishes like hot artichoke cream with seared foie gras, lobster, penne and parmesan gratin, roasted violet figs with raspberry sorbet. The wine list is interesting, too, with an unfiltered macrobiotic choice on the list. The first floor dining room is sleekly kitted out in tones of beige and anise, while the smoking bar places marine blue Louis XIV seating against exposed brick.
