Set amongst the glorious navigli of Milan, Al Pont de Ferr is not only in a stunning spot but boasts a reputation as one of the best places to eat in an area often lacking in quality. The restaurant’s rustic, wood panelled interior is undoubtedly warm and traditionally welcoming but it really does have nothing on the exterior. Bistro tables and chairs are piled on to the flagstone pavements overlooking the canals, making it a simply perfect spot for blissful summer time people watching. The northern Italian cuisine comes in restrained portions – order three or four to share if you’re feeling indulgent – and is an ideal introduction to local flavours with the likes of risotto ai carciofi con carpaccio di gamberi rossi di sicilia.
