If you are splashing out on a special occasion and want the food to be exquisite without the pompousness you get in some restaurants then Cristophe's in Amsterdam is for you. Low key, friendly service from knowledgable staff (with perfect English!) complements the best food I've ever tasted. Surprising things like creme brule with tarragon and duck pate with aniseed toast and chocolate butter were very much at home on the menu with perfectly executed standards like roast turbot. Spend, enjoy!
This is a nice, French restaurant with friendly and attentive staff. I love going to the nice bathrooms when I am in quality restaurants, but I was very disapponinted in this one. It needs some fixing up! The cheese trolley was impressive and good.
Christophe was beautiful and romantic. Service was excellent. Broad range of wines on the menu...settled on a relatively expensive Burgundy which was a little disappointing for more than Eur100. Amuse Bouche was tasty starter. We both selected first course from the daily set menu. Sea scallops seared in a very tasty sauce with thin strips of Granny Smith apple on top. Very tasty, but there was TOO MUCH SAUCE. Then my friend had the main course a daily special of roasted suckling pig. It was pretty bland and ordinary. I had a sauted Brill (Fish) in a red wine reduction sauce, which was very good. No dessert.
Overall, everything was great except the food, which was good but not exceptional
The food was expensive, but it was beautifully presented and delicious. The service was very attentive, but not intrusive.
Christophe, Amsterdam, was an excellent dining experience. Though not at all cheap, the attention to detail from the service, quality of food, ambience and the space were all worth every penny. The additional complementary courses of a Monkfish appetizer and a palate cleansing Passion Fruit Panacotta were exceptional. Head of house and waiting staff were charming and attentive. A memorable evening!
