Restaurant: Divinus Ronda

Divinus restaurant in Barcelona – let’s put it this way: every trip to this modernist metrop should always include a stroll up La Rambla ending in Placa de Catalunya and a meal in Divinus. Divinus is the best place in town to sample regional home cooking in a stylish, witty setting. The dining room blazes with orange leather seating, lively conversation with cool tiled floor underfoot and exposed ducting overhead. Walls are adorned with arty depictions of kitchen shelves with photos of the relatives interspersed. It’s like a supercharged student refectory in a terrific location just off La Rambla. The dishes include a huge variety of things, from pastas and pizzas and salads to authentic bits like scrambled eggs with Iberian ham, croquetas, lentils pardinas with verduritas and albondigas cooked with cuttlefish, and all of the highest quality. Divinus sprawls over a largish space, so putting tables together for groups is no problem. It’s a young and working crowd during the week – this is a favoured first stop for clubbing evenings – while families tend to predominate at weekends.
