El Gran Cafe has a lovely atmosphere, and we were impressed that it was full on a Sunday night - although we did book for 9pm to be safe. The ambience is lovely, and flatters the food. Our starters were both excellent, of the mains, one was excellent and one was more average. This was squid which was a little tough, though tasty. A tiny point, but the bread rolls were cold. Certainly worth a visit, and good value I felt, but not a meal to rave about if you love your fine dining.

Very nice restaurant with great service and food and this all for a reasonalble price. reservatino is a requirement and they are used to serve very quickly so you can leave early to provide room for new quests but this is never obliged or stressed to much. So only good thing of this restaurant.

Would highly recommend El Gran Cafe. Fantastic venue for a long slow meal. Ambience is excellent and feels like a top Parisian Brasserie inside with large chandeliers and royal red carpets. The food is very good, Garlic prawns and Salt Cod are both excellent, añthough the lamb as a main was only average. Service was also excellent and the piano player makes it easier to stay long into the night.

We had a fantastic meal here on our first night in Barcelona. Lovely old fashioned restaurant, but the food was very modern, delicious and interesting. The service was friendly and welcoming and there was some live piano music too which was fun!
My friends both had the salt cod and I had a warming fish stew. Desserts were also excellent.
All in all well recommended and worth a visit especially as the ambience is so good, relaxed and friendly but with professional service.

When you enter El Gran Cafe in Barcelona, it's like stepping back into the past, the decor is like something out of the Edwarding age. The service was excellent
There is a varied menu to appeal to all tastes.
I will eat there every time I go to Barcelona
Their Irish Coffee is to die for.
When we said that we had booked via Toptable we were given a glass of cava as soon as we were seated no body else received this treatment.

El Gran Cafe was a classical experience with nice old decor and a live pianist. All the staff were smartly dressed, friendly and attentive. Would go again.

It was the first booking I had made through Top table for the El Gran Cafe. The food was fantastic I had the Salt Cod for starter and my partner opted for fois gras. For the main I had rack of lamb which could have been a touch rarer, but still good and my partner had the Monkfish. the service was attentive but not too overbearing and when we requested a long break between courses the obliged.
Nice to be able to enjoy a cigar at the end of our meal too with a rather nice Calvados!!

Great location, lovely decor and very nice food. Menu was just enough choice to be torn between about five different things and the wine list was huge. Would go again.

El Gran Cafe

A longtime favourite of Barcelonans, from the 1920s until the next century, probably, El Gran Cafè restaurant feels every bit like a Parisian Art Nouveau brasserie. The Modernista style is glamourous, with red velvet curtains, original paintings, statuettes, grand brass chandeliers, soaring pillars, live piano in the evenings and a balcony from which to survey the scene. You'll feel as if you're on a movie set. The menu is a careful selection of traditional Catalan dishes like Paella Costa Brava and French ones like steak tartare. People tend to return again and again, not least because the prices are moderate and the service superb.
