On any given day, hungry shoppers and groups of friends, happy after a few hours at the bowling alley or skating at Madrid’s Ice Palace mall (aka Palacio de Hielo) fill Sagardi’s modern wooden spaces and terrace. The meat and fish cooked on an open grill are arguably the main attraction at this growing chain of restaurants themed on the cider houses of the Basque Country. But Sagardi Palacio de Helio’s choice of 80 pintxos (single-portion dishes) that act as breakfast, snack, lunch or dinner are equally worth trying out. Though traditionally enjoyed with a glass of red, we recommend any of the unfiltered Zapiain ciders. There’s a second Sagardi in Madrid, near Plaza de España square.
