The Ambassador Cafe

Exmouth Market has more than its fair share of critically-acclaimed restaurants, the Ambassador Café among them. Sort of all right. The Ambassador's the sort of place I'd go to much more if either it were local (OK, nothing's local to the Royal Docks) or a bit more modestly priced. Most of the food was pleasant, excellent cauliflower soup, rather gamey sea bass though. Sort of stuff you could knock up given an hour in a quiet kitchen and a copy of Jamie Oliver, though, nothing earth-shattering. 45 quid a head with only one bottle between 3 seemed a bit excessive for midweek supper.

The Ambassador was a great spot for lunch on a sunday - will certainly be going back soon! great food and great service.

Lovely food and friendly staff as ever who managed to cater for our large and unruly group with charm.

I have been to the Ambassador Cafe in Exmouth Market several times before and always enjoy a meal there. The staff have the rare knack of being both very professional and friendly and informal. The food is reliably good if not amazing and exciting. My only quibble is the price - I wish it was about 20% cheaper.

Ambassador cafe has a cosy, European bistro ambience, but it was extremely noisy when we were there on a Sat eve. The restaurant was busy but not full, so it's hard to imagine the noise level when the place is full. The service was friendly but we had to wait about 40 mins for our main courses, (at 10.20pm), exactly 1 hr after we arrived at the restaurant! Though the food was good, tasty and reasonably priced, I feel that the slow service and noise level was a real letdown.
